Carbon Risks to Ship Financiers
Is a Complicated Calculation

November 16, 2017

An executive report released this month details the complicated relationship of ship-financing banks, their risk premiums and lending portfolios with energy-efficient ship design, split incentives for owners and the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) requirements from the IMO and the EU.

The report was published by the Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC), an organization geared toward tracking carbon effects on prices. CPLC is governed by leaders from around the world in government, business and civil organizations. The World Bank serves as the CPLC secretariat.
