Top Tension Risers
Installed in Moho Nord

2H Offshore has successfully completed the installation of the first of 17 production top tension risers (TTRs) for Total E&P Congo’s Moho Nord field. 2H performed pressure tests prior to the completion drilling phase through the TTRs. The installation was conducted on the tension leg platform (TLP) in a water depth of approximately 800 m.

The TTRs were designed for 25 years of service life and can be fitted on any of the 27 well slots in the field. The first 17 are to be installed in the next four to five years.

Norway Approves PDO
For Trestakk in Norwegian Sea

Norwegian authorities have approved the plan for development and operation (PDO) of the Trestakk discovery on the Halten Bank in the Norwegian Sea.

Trestakk was discovered in 1986 and expected recoverable volumes are 76 million barrels of oil equivalent, mainly oil. Tied into the Åsgard A production vessel, Trestakk is expected to come on stream in 2019.

On behalf of the license owners, Statoil submitted the PDO to the minister of petroleum and energy in November 2016.

The costs of developing the Trestakk discovery have been reduced by nearly 50 percent since project start-up.

Nickel Batteries Deliver
Backup Power Offshore Vietnam

Alcad Vantex nickel technology batteries are delivering reliable backup power for uninterruptible power supply systems that support critical control and safety functions on the Well Head Platform A (WHP-A) unmanned offshore oil platform operated by Cuu Long Joint Operating Co. in Vietnam’s Su Tu Den oil field.

Vietnam is the third-largest oil producer in Southeast Asia and is a net exporter of crude oil.

Samoco Receives E&P
Innovation Award for OneTrip

Samoco Oil Tools received a 2017 E&P Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation for its OneTrip BOP Universal Test Tool. The award was accepted during the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Texas.

As one of 22 oil field solutions to be recognized, Samoco was chosen based on evaluation of such criteria as innovation in concept, suitability as a practical solution to a real oil field problem, potential for improving efficiency and safety, and potential for improving profitability.

OneTrip cuts BOP testing time in half by performing all three federally mandated, downhole tests in a single trip.

Holyhead Deep Tidal Project Moves Forward
Xodus Group has delivered the environmental impact assessment (EIA) and license application for Minesto’s Holyhead Deep project, for which consent has been confirmed by Natural Resources Wales.

The consent is for a 0.5-MW Deep Green device that will demonstrate and prove the technology ahead of plans for installing a 10-MW array at the site.

The first phase of the project will include a single Deep Green device unit, seabed foundation and a surfaced moored buoy to be installed this year.

The EIA considered the potential impacts on fisheries, marine mammals, sea birds, marine archaeology, cultural heritage, shipping and navigation, which were found to be “not significant.”

Holyhead Deep marks the starting point of the industrialization of the Deep Green technology. It is the world’s first low-velocity tidal energy project.

Kongsberg, SES Form Alliance
For Engineering, Tech Solutions

Kongsberg Maritime Inc., the North American division of Norway-headquartered Kongsberg Maritime, and Houston-headquartered Stress Engineering Services (SES) have formed a strategic alliance to better serve existing and new clients with engineering services and fully integrated technical solutions for offshore drilling and floating production systems.

The alliance can offer integrated services, systems and support to drilling contractors, oil and gas companies, original equipment manufacturers and other manufacturers in the upstream sector, covering all stages of a drilling and workover operation, including planning, execution, post-operations and condition-based maintenance.

Construction Ends on
Gemini Offshore Wind Farm

Northland Power Inc. confirmed that the 600-MW Gemini offshore wind farm achieved full completion in April.

The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

All 150 turbines have been operating since October 2016. Full completion marks the end of construction.

Gemini is expected to generate enough clean, renewable energy to meet the needs of 1.5 million people in the Netherlands and reduce the country’s carbon dioxide emissions by 1.25 million tons per year. It is one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.

OTC Acquires NWTS
As Wholly Owned Subsidiary

Offshore Technical Compliance (OTC) has acquired Northwest Technical Solutions (NWTS) as a wholly owned subsidiary, thus extending its offshore services.

The acquisition of NWTS, which will be renamed as OTC Solutions, adds third-party verification of compliance for well control equipment by a registered professional engineering firm to OTC’s portfolio, enabling its customers to access the full spectrum of compliance-related services under the OTC brand.

OTC now operates out of offices in Houston and Covington, Louisiana.

Accepting Nominations for
Offshore Energy Awards
