SEA to Upgrade Ambient Noise
Prediction System for UK Navy

Cohort company SEA has been awarded a U.K. Ministry of Defence contract to upgrade the Ambient Noise Prediction System (ANPS) for the U.K. Royal Navy.

The ANPS takes meteorological and oceanographic forecasts, together with oceanographic databases, and performs complex acoustic propagation calculations to produce regular forecasts of ambient noise conditions in the ocean. The results help with vessel planning and sonar effectiveness.

MBDA to Support
Royal Navy Sea Viper

MBDA has received a contract from the U.K. Ministry of Defence for further in-service support to the Sea Viper weapon system, securing a key capability of the Type 45 fleet.

The contract will cover the Aster missile that protects the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers for the next five years.

HALO to Provide Fully Automated
Waterside Security Barrier in Norfolk

HALO Maritime Defense Systems (HALO) has been awarded a two-year contract by the Naval Sea Systems Command to provide a fully automated waterside security barrier at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. This is the first operational contract with the U.S. Navy for HALO.

The contract calls for replacing the legacy manual barrier at Naval Station Norfolk with the HALO Guardian Gate and providing maintenance and support for the first year of operation. The HALO Guardian gate will protect ships in port and provide a minimum of 300 ft. of clearance for vessel passage in and out of port.

General Dynamics to Continue
Developing Common Missile Compartment

The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a contract modification to continue development of the Common Missile Compartment for the U.S. Navy’s Columbia-class submarine and the Royal Navy’s Dreadnought-class ballistic-missile submarine. This will enable procurement of 17 missile tubes to support the manufacture of the Common Missile Compartment.

S2ME2 ANTX Demos Tech
For Amphibious Beach Landings

Autonomous vehicles, augmented reality systems and advanced wireless networks were among more than 50 new technologies showcased during the Ship-to-Shore Maneuver Exploration and Experimentation Advanced Naval Technology Exercise (S2ME2 ANTX) 2017, a series of amphibious beach landings held at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California.

During each demo, unmanned surface and underwater vehicles approached the shore first, collecting intelligence about battlespace conditions.

S2ME2 ANTX focused on five capability areas of amphibious operations: ship-to-shore maneuver; weapons fire support and effects; clearing assault lanes; command and control; and information warfare. Demonstrated technologies included unmanned and autonomous vehicles equipped with sensors to gather intelligence in the air, on land and underwater.

thyssenkrupp Marine Uses Autodesk, SSI Software
For ANZAC Refit Project

thyssenkrupp Marine Systems Australia (tkMSA) used software from Autodesk and SSI on a refit project for the Anzac-class frigates for the Royal New Zealand Navy. Part of this project included the design of two new mast modules.

SSI’s ShipConstructor increased the number of items modeled and enabled enhanced detailing. The 2D drawings generated from the 3D ShipConstructor model remained associatively linked so that any changes requested by the stakeholders could be accommodated easily.

Kongsberg Delivers IP CCTV System
For Canadian Navy’s Project Resolve

The Aberdeen, UK-based Kongsberg Maritime camera systems group has delivered a large network IP CCTV system to Chantier Davie Canada for installation aboard the new Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Auxiliary Naval Replenishment Ship, called “Project Resolve.” Project Resolve was established to develop an interim fleet supply vessel for the RCN. A commercial container ship is being converted into an Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment ship to be chartered by the RCN. The conversion is to be completed and the ship active in service during 2017.

Kongsberg will provide engineering support to carry out onboard commissioning of the CCTV system.
